For right now, if I can't post my creations on here, then I'll show off my mother's. I call them Mama's treasures. :) When I was going through her crafts and sewing things, I came across this beginning of a cathedral quilt. I had seen it before and even asked her if she'd show me how to do the cathedral quilt method. She always said she would but another day when she felt better. :(
I really would like to continue this and make it quilt size. I do have a book that shows how to do the cathedral quilt and I've read and tried it but don't understand it. Maybe just those instructions are confusing and I can find some better instructions.
Also, I really don't know how it would look to continue with the fabrics I have. I did find some vintage fabrics in her things and could take those to finish it. I have a sister that has started doing some quilting, though, and I wouldn't want to take it unless she agreed. Maybe we could share the fabric.

This is a good close-up of the vintage fabrics used. These were probably fabrics she made our clothing from when we were children. A treasure, indeed!

I think if you just did one block, it would make sense. I can see where reading about it would seem confusing.
I know you're right. I learn by DOING! But I need to find clearer instructions than what I have. I have always loved that quilt pattern. She did it by hand sewing, too!
No wonder I loved your mother so. I knew she crocheted, but all of these other treasures are just wonderful. It also makes me feel better about all of my "stashed projects"

Prissy, Mama always told me that I would be the only one who would "understand" when she died! ha! I knew exactly what she meant but I can say that I have many, many more unfinished projects than she did. It really surprised me. I expected to find more unfinished projects than I did. I told Mama that when I die, Emily will be the one who understands! ha!
Marty, you have such a good memory. There are some things that I saw when I went through everything that I just didn't remember.
You need someone to understand your stuff when you're gone. One of my mom's neighbors died and she had some of the most wonderful embroidery and crochet books and supplies. None of her daughters wanted it so my mom told them that I would love it. All of these treasures have made me appreciate that sweet lady in a whole new way. I knew her for years and didn't know know her creative side...I just knew she was a sweet lady. It also made me realize that Moma knows me so well.
It is so beautiful! I have always wanted to try this pattern because it is so pretty. 1930's reproduction prints would look wonderful with the patterns you already have in the quilt.
